MoRTH SMS Explained: Update Your Mobile Number on Parivahan (Aadhaar OTP)

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has asked all vehicle owners to add, update, and confirm the mobile number linked to their registered vehicles through Aadhaar authentication. This step ensures that important notifications like e-challans, insurance reminders, PUC updates, and tax alerts reach you directly.

> If you are from MH12 city (Pune RTO) or MH14 city (Pimpri Chinchwad RTO), the procedure remains the same. You only need to select your state and RTO while starting the process.

What you need before you start

Vehicle Registration Number (RC) (for example MH12 or MH14)

Chassis number (last 5 characters)

Aadhaar number of the registered owner

Mobile number linked with Aadhaar (you will receive an OTP here)

Step-by-Step: Update Mobile Number for Your Vehicle (RC)

1. Go to the official portal

Open parivahan.gov.in → choose Online Services → Vehicle Related Services (Vahan). Then select your State and the correct RTO such as MH 12 RTO (Pune) or MH 14 RTO (Pimpri Chinchwad).

2. Choose the mobile update service

Select the option “Mobile Number Update (Aadhaar Authentication)”.

3. Enter vehicle details

Enter your Registration Number (for example MH12 city vehicles or MH14 city vehicles) and Chassis Number (last 5 digits). Some states may also ask for the Engine Number or Registration Date.

4. Aadhaar authentication

Tick the consent box for Aadhaar eKYC, enter your Aadhaar number, and click Get OTP. Enter the OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

5. Enter your new mobile number

After Aadhaar verification, your vehicle details will appear. Select Update Mobile Number, enter your new number, and confirm. In some cases, an OTP may also be sent to the new number.

6. Get acknowledgement

Once submitted, you will get a success message or acknowledgement slip. In most states, the update is instant. In rare cases, it may show “Verification at RTO.” Save the confirmation for your records.

Optional: Update Mobile Number for Driving Licence (DL)

If you also want to update your number for a Driving Licence (DL), the steps are similar:

Go to Online Services → Driving Licence Related Services (Sarathi) → select your State (for example, which is MH 12 city – Pune or which is MH 14 city – Pimpri Chinchwad) → choose Mobile Number Update via Aadhaar → complete the Aadhaar OTP process and submit your new mobile number.

How to confirm your update

Revisit the same portal after a day and check your vehicle details.

The updated mobile number will reflect against your RC (for example MH12 city name vehicles or MH14 city name vehicles) or Driving Licence profile.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Make sure the mobile number linked with Aadhaar is active. If not, update it at an Aadhaar service center first.

2) The page is asking for more details.

Some states ask for engine number or registration date for additional verification. Keep your RC book handy.
